Over time, (about 25 years), this highly technically advanced wonder known as color photography was discovered to not have nearly the chemical stability as good ol' B&W. One of the three layers of colors that make up the photo would begin to fade, allowing the other two to dominate. If scanned, the missing color can be replaced and printed digitally, which is renowned to have a color-fast lifespan of over 100 years.
